December 2017

Classes 15, 17 and 19 have had their rehearsal too.

The dress rehearsals are well under way,and everything is looking very good for the performances.  We will have photos of classes 15,17 and 19 later today.  Thank you so much for helping with the costumes - don't they all look lovely!

The Nativity Scenes are Well Under Way - Thanks to Our Lovely Volunteers!

Many thanks to all the volunteers who came to help this afternoon with props…we are now very excited for the nativity performances.

 

Reception Children love their new Books and Authors Topic!

The children in Reception had an enjoyable Entry Point day for their new topic of Books and Authors. They listened to stories including The Stickman, The Gruffalo, The Bear Hunt and Giraffes Can’t Dance then took part in a variety of activities throughout the day.

 

 

Year 6 go back to Victorian Times

Year 6 children are experiencing how a day might have been for school children back in Victorian times. The classrooms have been set up as they would have been, and the teachers have really entered into the spirit of the day, taking their roles very seriously!  They all look great, as do the children in their Victorian inspired clothes.

Reception Meet the Fire Brigade. 

Reception had a visit from the Fire Brigade today. The children used the hose and climbed into the fire engine spending time talking to the fire fighters. Thank you to the Orpington Fire Station for our visit today!

 

Harvest Assembly

In Junior assembly today, the children looked at pizzas and investigated the countries that the ingredients are from.   They then went on to make a pizza which was cooked for them in the kitchens.   They really enjoyed eating it!

 

Romans Invade Crofton!

Having learned about Roman times when they visited the Roman Villa in Orpington, Year 3 came to school dressed in their best Roman outfits.   Don't they look great!

 

Year 6 London Day

For their London topic, Year 6 have been Art Detectives, looking at paintings of the capital from different times and creating their own skylines.

 

They produced concept maps to demonstrate their knowledge of London.

 

They also learned about rhyming slang, and even had a go at the Lambeth Walk!

 

Year 3 Educational Visit to Crofton Roman Villa

As part of their topic, year 3 went on a trip to the Roman Villa.

 

The Vet comes to Crofton!

As part of the topic in Reception, the children enjoyed a visit from a veterinary nurse. She explained how she helped animals and then showed the children her theatre outfit. Each child was then given the opportunity to find the microchip in a very patient dog!

 

Year 3 went on their travels.

Year 3 went to Crofton Airport recently, all ready for their flights on Crofton Airlines!  They were packed ready to go, and were ably assisted by our lovely cabin crew!

 

Reception go to the Library!

Reception have enjoyed a trip to Petts Wood Library. The children learned how the library works, listened to a story and had time to share books with parents and carers.

 

Investigating Cress Seed Germination

Year 5 have been growing cress from seeds to find what the seeds need to be able to germinate.

 

Year 5 Entry Point - Natural Disasters

Year 5 had great fun replicating their own natural disasters!

 

Fun in Forest School!

Year 4 also had a chance to show off their teamwork skills in Forest School with Mrs Bisley. The children worked in pairs and took turns to help their blind-folded partner to navigate safely around the woodland.

 

Year 4 Chocolatiers!

As part of their chocolate entry point, Year 4 have had a chocolate maker come in and talk to them all about how chocolate is made.  They got a chance to taste it too!

 

Crofton Children have Green Fingers!

Our gardening club. led by Mrs Alvey, has been awarded the Shewell-Cooper award by the London Children's Flower Society for growing great vegetables!  Representatives of the club went to a trophy award ceremony at The Guildhall today with Mrs Alvey and Miss King.  The trophy was presented to the children by Floella Benjamin.

Year 5 Educational Visit to Horton Kirby

Here are some pictures of the children on their visit to Horton Kirby where they had a chance to learn even more about rivers.

 

Our Newest Recruits!

Our new Reception children have settled in really well!   Take a look at all the different things they have been doing since they started at Crofton.

The children went on a Shape treasure hunt, and drew shapes in their classroom.

The children have enjoyed visits from the school lollipop lady and a paramedic. They have used role play areas and the outside classroom to develop their language skills.

The children have been learning to share and work with their class friends in the outside learning space.

During PE sessions children have been developing their fine and gross motor skills.

St Olave's Science/Maths Day

Y5 children enjoyed taking part in the St Olave's Science & Maths Challenge Day on 28 June.  The day offered them the opportunity to take part in a variety of maths and science challenges and activities.

YEAR 6 - NORFOLK 2017

The Y6 children are looking forward to their residential trip on 26 June to Norfolk.

We are delighted to inform you that our free school application has been approved. We believe that the most likely date for the opening of CSAT Northern Gateway will be September 2019.  Updates will be posted on the website as more information becomes available.

              

Year 1 Production - The Goblin Next Door

Year 1 thrilled their audiences with confident singing and performances of the Goblin Next Door.

They told the story of a bad Goblin who disturbed the woodland creatures before realising that having friends is

very important. As with the best stories, all was well in the woodland when the Goblin realised the

error of his ways. The Goblin was given a fresh start and the children sang with enthusiasm to close the show.

A big thank you to all staff involved in the performances .

World Book Day

It was amazing to see the effort that went in to costumes for World Book Day and the children had lots of fun with book-related activities.

Number Day

On 3 February the children supported the NSPCC Number Day by wearing number themed clothing.

Children from Crofton Junior School took part in the annual Crofton's Got Talent competition and the winners were.......

In 3rd place were our talented tap dancers            1st place went to our fantastic singers                  2nd place were our amazing gymnasts

As part of the topic on Chocolate the children in Year 4 enjoyed a visit from Martha Boadu, daughter of a cocoa farmer in Ashanti Region of Ghana

Crofton Junior School supported the Ashanti Development Charity during their Charity week in May 2016

Year 3 children from Crofton Junior School enjoyed a visit from the Rainbow Theatre who performed "Child in Roman Britain"

The children learnt about food, family traditions, education before being transported to a Roman Town to visit its market and a gladiator school.

Children from Crofton Infant and Crofton Junior Schools enjoyed the fun of dressing up to support Children in Need and raised a grand total of £1139.89

The children enjoyed watching and participating in the thrilling and fascinating story of Moses and his fight with Pharaoh.  The production is linked with their topic on Rivers.
